About This Tour
A 9-day Kenya safari with Katulu Africa Safari offers an immersive journey across Kenya’s most iconic and diverse landscapes. Each destination on this carefully crafted route showcases a unique side of the country’s wildlife, scenery, and culture, giving travelers a well-rounded experience of Kenya’s natural wonders.
Amboseli National Park
At the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli is one of the most picturesque safari destinations in Africa. The park is famous for its large herds of free-roaming elephants often seen against the dramatic backdrop of Kilimanjaro’s snow-capped peak—a dream for wildlife photographers.
Amboseli’s varied habitats, from open savannahs to swampy marshes, support a rich variety of wildlife including lions, cheetahs, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, and over 400 bird species.
The park is particularly special for offering close encounters with elephants, making it one of the best places in Africa to observe these gentle giants up close.
Lake Naivasha
Located in the Great Rift Valley, Lake Naivasha provides a serene contrast to the savannah landscapes. It is a freshwater lake surrounded by lush greenery, acacia forests, and volcanic hills. Known as a birdwatcher’s paradise, the lake attracts species such as African fish eagles, herons, pelicans, and kingfishers.
A highlight is the tranquil boat rides where visitors can spot hippos wallowing in the waters while enjoying close views of aquatic birdlife. Nearby Crescent Island Sanctuary offers a unique walking safari experience, allowing guests to stroll alongside giraffes, zebras, and antelopes in a predator-free environment. Naivasha combines relaxation with adventure and is a refreshing stop along the safari route.
Samburu National Reserve
Heading north, the landscapes shift to the arid and rugged beauty of Samburu National Reserve, a region that feels vastly different from Kenya’s southern parks. Fed by the Ewaso Nyiro River, Samburu supports a surprising abundance of wildlife adapted to dry conditions.
The reserve is most celebrated for the Samburu Special Five—Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk—species rarely found elsewhere in Kenya. Alongside these unique animals, visitors also encounter elephants, lions, leopards, and over 350 bird species. The cultural richness of the Samburu people adds depth to the experience, as their traditions and nomadic lifestyles reflect the spirit of northern Kenya.
Lake Nakuru National Park
Famous for its shimmering alkaline lake and dramatic escarpments, Lake Nakuru National Park is a sanctuary for both wildlife and birdlife. The park is one of Kenya’s top places to see black and white rhinos, often grazing along the lakeshore.
It is also home to the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, large troops of baboons, buffalo, zebras, and predators such as lions and leopards. Bird enthusiasts will appreciate the diversity here, including flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, and fish eagles. The mix of woodland, savannah, and lakeside habitats makes Nakuru one of Kenya’s most versatile parks to explore.
Masai Mara National Reserve
The journey culminates in the legendary Masai Mara, a reserve that embodies the very essence of African safari. Known for its vast rolling plains and unrivaled concentration of wildlife, the Mara is home to the Big Five and countless other species.
It is particularly famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration, when millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles cross the Mara River between July and October—a dramatic spectacle of survival and predator-prey interaction.
Even outside the migration season, the Mara offers year-round wildlife sightings, especially of big cats like lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Cultural encounters with the Maasai people enrich the experience, offering insights into one of Africa’s most iconic pastoralist cultures.
Together, these destinations weave a safari tapestry that balances dramatic landscapes, exceptional wildlife encounters, and cultural depth. From the shadow of Kilimanjaro to the endless plains of the Mara, this 9-day safari showcases the best of Kenya’s wilderness.
