National Park. This Kenya safari itinerary combines great safaris to the great game
viewing destinations through the scenic drives through the Great Rift Valley offering
close encounters with wildlife.
Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara
This kenya safari tour will start in the morning with a brief introduction with our safari
guide then drive southwest toward the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. The
drive is approximately 280 kilometers and takes about 6 hours. As you descend into
the Great Rift Valley, your first stop offers a panoramic view of the Rift Valley
escarpment at the view point.
You will drive through the scenic Great Rift Valley, with a stop at a viewpoint offering
sweeping vistas of the valley floor and volcanic hills. You’ll then travel through Narok
town, the Maasai land. Upon arrival, you’ll check in to your camp or lodge such as
Mara Sopa Lodge, Enkorok Mara Camp, or Jambo Mara Safari Lodge, where you’ll
enjoy lunch and a short rest.
In the afternoon, get out for your first game drive in the Maasai Mara. This reserve is
renowned for its dense populations of wildlife, especially big cats. During this game
drive expect to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and numerous species of
antelopes and gazelles. You may be lucky to spot a cheetah on the hunt or a leopard
in a tree, particularly in the eastern and central sectors of the park. The open
savannah, scattered with umbrella-shaped acacia trees, provides the perfect
backdrop for wildlife photography.
Return to your lodge or tented camp in the early evening for dinner and overnight
stay
Day 2: Full Day Game Drive in Maasai Mara
Activities: Full-day game drive with picnic lunch inside the park
This day is dedicated to a full-day game drive in Maasai Mara, with early departure
after breakfast. You’ll explore deep into the reserve, reaching the Mara River, where
you can witness crocodiles basking in the shores and hippos submerged in the
waters. During the Great Migration season (July–October), this river is a dramatic
crossing point for wildebeest and zebra, often pursued by crocodiles and big cats.
The park is home to the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino (though
black rhino sightings are rare but possible in the Mara Triangle). The open savannah
is teeming with cheetahs, hyenas, jackals, and an abundance of birds such as
secretary birds, ostriches, and vultures. A picnic lunch will be served at a scenic spot
within the reserve, allowing you to enjoy a meal in the heart of the wild.
In the afternoon, continue game viewing in different sectors of the reserve, guided by
your driver who knows the terrain and animal behaviours well. You’ll return to your
lodge in the evening for dinner and a relaxing night.
Day 3: Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru National Park
Distance: ~230 km
Driving Time: 5–6 hours
After an early breakfast, depart Maasai Mara by 7:00 AM and begin the journey
northwards toward Lake Nakuru National Park, located in the Great Rift Valley. Along
the way, enjoy views of Kenyan countryside landscapes, farmlands, and roadside
villages. Arrive in Nakuru in time for lunch at a lodge or camp inside or near the park
(options include Lake Nakuru Lodge, Sarova Lion Hill, or Ziwa Bush Lodge).
In the afternoon, embark on a game drive around Lake Nakuru, a shallow soda lake
renowned for its large flocks of flamingos and pelicans, which gather along the
shores creating a striking pink and white band. Although the number of flamingos
fluctuates with water levels, birdlife is consistently abundant. Lake Nakuru is also a
rhino sanctuary, offering excellent chances of spotting both black and white rhinos up
close.
Watch out for lions, often found lounging in acacia trees, leopards are mostly seen
